After the Mamas & the Papas split up, Cass Elliot found success on her own with several sizable sellers. Her first solo smash in 1968, "Dream a Little Dream of Me," still featured the group's support, but her 1969 hit on Dunhill, "Make Your Own Kind of Music," proved Cass could do it on her own. Insisting on dropping her "Mama" nickname, Elliot developed into a popular TV personality and nightclub act before succumbing to a heart attack in 1974. ~ Bill Dahl, All Music Guide
