Maxwell returns to concert stage

R&B star Maxwell will embark on his first tour in six years this fall, beginning October 8 in Boston and running through November 21 in Philadelphia.

The neo-soul singer hasn't released a new album since 2001's "Now" but continues to work on a three-part follow-up, "Black Summers' Night." Additional information about the Columbia project, including a release date, is not available, according to a spokesperson.

The most recent details about "Black Summers' Night" emerged in September, when Columbia urban music executive Kyambo "Hip-Hop" Joshua told Billboard that "Maxwell's still working with Sade's band, his tried-and-true team. He took some time off and now he's ready."

Joshua added, "He's recorded so much material that he's got a couple of albums done."

In the past couple of years, Maxwell has previewed new songs on his MySpace site, including "Pretty Wings," which has racked up more than 762,000 plays. He also made his first major appearance in recent memory at the BET Awards in June, performing "Simply Beautiful" as part of an Al Green tribute.
