While accepting the award Simmons thanked his partner Stan Lathan, his wife Kimora Simmons, his brother Danny Simmons, and his friends Brett Ratner and David Rosenberg.
The mogul also thanked the public. "And thank all of you for being so open-minded," Simmons said. "I remember all the millions and millions of records we sold before the Grammys even knew we existed. And we came here and you all promoted us and gave the best resources and support we could hope for. So thank you all very much."
The weekly HBO series is hosted by rapper Mos Def.
