Muse vs. Live Earth

Yahoo! Music, Apr 12, 2007 3:00 pm PDT
Muse have accused the rock stars backing the Live Earth concerts of hypocrisy, as plans for this summer's climate-change extravaganza take shape.

Muse are not expected to appear at any of the seven Al Gore-pioneered shows, which take place simultaneously across the globe on July 7.

Now Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has become one of the first stars to suggest the environmental damage caused by the mammoth events will counter the awareness raised globally.

He commented: "Private jets for climate change? Not sure about it, that seems to be a bit on edge, really--that's an issue, really, so we need to think about it!"

Meanwhile, Bloc Party have spoken about their decision to play the London leg of the show, admitting they are behind the idea "to raise consciousness, not money."

Bloc Party bass player Gordon Moakes said: "I'm kind of a bit wary of the idea of a charity gig in a way, it's almost like an easy option. It's an important cause to get behind, and I guess the easiest way for a band like us is to say, 'Yeah, of course we'll play.'"

Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Razorlight, Keane, Snow Patrol, Duran Duran, Genesis, Beastie Boys, James Blunt, and Bloc Party are confirmed to appear at the Wembley Stadium show in London.

Kanye West, Bon Jovi, the Police, Smashing Pumpkins, Fall Out Boy, AFI, Sheryl Crow, and John Mayer are on the bill for the concert in New Jersey.
