Nelly Surprised By ASCAP Songwriter Honor
Yahoo! Music, May 27, 2003 5:00 pm PDT(5/27/03, 5 p.m. ET) -- Nelly and producer, 7Aurelius, were named co-Songwriters Of The Year at the 20th Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards on May 21 at the Beverly Hills Hilton.
Nelly, who penned several huge hits last year including "Hot In Herre," "Dilemma," and "Where The Party At?", said he was surprised by the honor. "It 's kind of crazy because I just started rapping to stay the hell out of trouble, for real,” Nelly said. “ And you know the amazing ride that I've been on is crazy for me and it's crazy from where I come from, and it's crazy for the people around me. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever [think] that I'd be a songwriter...songwriter...get that...that's big."
Sharing the honor with Nelly is 7Aurelius, who produced eight number one hit singles last year. 7Aurelius was honored for his winning songs for Ashanti ("Foolish"), Ja Rule ("Always On Time"), and Jennifer Lopez ("I'm Real (Murder Remix))."
