Nelly's 'Pimp Juice' Inspired By Real Pimps And His Little Brother
Yahoo! Music, Mar 28, 2003 5:00 pm PST(3/28/03, 5 p.m. ET) -- Grammy-winning rapper Nelly recently released "Pimp Juice" as the fourth single from his 2002 Nellyville album.
The rapper explained that the song was inspired by the pimps who congratulated him on his musical success. "When I would meet the pimps or whatever, they would just keep telling me, 'You're doing a beautiful thing, brother--keep pimping the game,' and that's what set it to me," Nelly said. "I just kinda went into a mode."
In addition to the pimps, Nelly credits his little brother Eric with introducing him to the term "pimp juice." "Actually, that's where the word 'pimp juice' came from--you know, my little brother Eric, you know back in St. Louis, him and his partners," Nelly said. "We came back off tour probably about like a year-and-a-half ago, and here he go, 'What up, pimp juice?' It's like a St. Louis word now."
Nelly also explained that the term refers to whatever attribute that you have going for you that allows you to come out on top. "Pimp juice is anything that attract the opposite sex," Nelly said. "You know, of course, you heard the song--money, fame, or intellect. It don't matter. Whatever you using to get ahead or whatever you think people are really taking to you for, that's kinda like your juice. Whatever you using to win with right now, that's your juice--that's your pimp juice, so keep pimping."
