Foxy Busted for BlackBerry Bashing

E! Online, Aug 15, 2007 9:19 am PDT
Has Foxy Brown been studying the Naomi Campbell playbook?

Just two months after a Manhattan judge gave her major props for managing to stay out of trouble while serving probation stemming for assaulting two nail workers three years ago, the Chyna Doll rapper now faces the possibility of serious jail time after allegedly whacking her Brooklyn neighbor with an airborne BlackBerry.

According to the NYPD and Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, the 27-year-old Brown turned herself into authorities on Tuesday and was booked on charges of felony assault in the second degree, assault in the third degree, menacing, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon.

The hot-tempered hip-hopster, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was arraigned and released after posting a $5,000 bond.

The NYPD said the incident occurred on July 30, after Brown got into an argument with an unidentified 25-year-old woman who lived next door and then slugged her in the face with her BlackBerry.

No word what triggered the purported phone assault. The neighbor was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for a swollen lip, loose teeth, and a bruised right eye. She then went home, called 911 and filed her complaint. After an investigation by police, the performer agreed to surrender.

A hearing in the case has been scheduled for Sept. 26.

The BlackBerry-bashing charges may also affect Brown's legal standing in another case.

She was sentenced last October to three years' probation, anger-management classes and random drug tests after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts of assault stemming from an August 2004 attack on two nail salon employees.

Brown has been found in violation of her probation, but has so far managed to avoid jail.

In January, she was bounced from an anger-management program for allegedly threatening a worker there.

A month later, Foxy was collared in Florida after hurling hair glue and spitting at an employee of a beauty supply shop. She ended up being charged with battery and obstruction of justice charges and spent the night behind bars.

But Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson went easy on Brown following that dustup.  After the entertainer pleaded guilty to a violation for traveling outside of New York without the permission of authorities, the judge ordered Brown to spend more time in anger management and get counseling once a week for the next year.

However, Jackson said Brown would be locked up if she misbehaved again.

According to a spokesperson for the New York City probation department, officials will file a violation of probation notice with Manhattan Criminal Court, which then set a hearing date.

Brown's next album, Brooklyn's Don Diva, is due to drop Dec. 1.
