No Doubt To Mix It Up On 'Malice'

(5/20/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- No Doubt will collaborate Vivendi Universal Games (a division of Vivendi Universal Publishing) and Interscope Records for a character-based, three-dimensional action-adventure videogame titled Malice, which will feature characters voiced by bandmembers as well as songs from their Rock Steady album.
The partnership will also introduce No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani as the voice of unexpected hammer-wielding heroine Malice, and bassist Tony Kanal, guitarist Tom Dumont, and drummer Adrian Young as the voices of her counterparts within the game. No Doubt will provide three tracks for Malice's game music and television-advertising campaign. Some of the tracks will be remixed to compliment the game's look and feel.
"Having our songs in Malice is another way to get our music to people who might not otherwise hear it," said Stefani. "We make music--that's what we do and we love to share it."
Kanal added, "Being a band that grew up in the videogame generation, the fusing of videogames and music is exciting to us. To be involved with a game during its creative development was a cool opportunity, so we jumped at the chance to be part of Malice." Malice--which was developed by Argonaut Games PLC and will be published by Sierra Entertainment, Inc.--is due for worldwide release this fall on both the Xbox videogame system and the PlayStation 2 computer-entertainment system.
In related news, No Doubt will open for the Rolling Stones on three of their U.S. tour dates, including stops at Turner Field in Atlanta on October 26, Ford Field in Detroit on October 12, and the Toronto Skydome in Toronto on October 18.
