Says Less Flash Means More Cash For United We Stand Relief Funds

Yahoo! Music, Oct 18, 2001 10:00 am PDT
(10/18/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- When *NSYNC takes the stage at sold-out United We Stand What More Can I Give? concert at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. on Sunday (October 21), fans will notice that the flash that usually accompanies the group's stage show has been nearly eliminated. Known for its elaborate stage shows--which have featured pyrotechnics, giant props, video screens, and even flying rigs in the past--*NSYNC has chosen to tone down its performance for the all-star fundraiser.

*NSYNC member Chris Kirkpatrick told LAUNCH this week that, with the minimal staging, the group wanted to respect the somber nature of the event and also have as much money as possible to go directly to American Red Cross Liberty Relief Fund, the Salvation Army Relief Fund, and the Pentagon Relief Fund. "We're really taking our show down a notch," he said. "I mean, we're still going to have the great performance that we always do, but we're going to take a lot of the flash away because it doesn't make any sense for us to spend any extra money that we don't have to spend without the bare essentials, so that all the money that gets earned goes to the right places, and to the right foundations."

Other United We Stand performers will include Huey Lewis & the News, Carole King, the Backstreet Boys, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child, Aerosmith, Usher, Rod Stewart, Ricky Martin, Train, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, the Goo Goo Dolls, James Brown, Al Green, and more.
