The Osbournes Pop In On Emmys, Sting, 'Heroes' Score A Wins

Yahoo! Music, Sep 23, 2002 12:00 am PDT
(9/23/02, 12 a.m. ET) -- The first family of reality TV, Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly, and Jack Osbourne, popped in on Sunday's (September 22) Emmy Awards as presenters and for some comic relief.

The show began with a segment of host Conan O'Brien (Late Night With Conan O'Brien) oversleeping at the family's mansion and hitching ride from Ozzy to the awards ceremony. But instead of taking O'Brien to the Shrine Auditorium where the event was taking place, Ozzy drove the host to the set of The Price Is Right where he interrupted a taping and got yelled at by Bob Barker.

The opening bit also included O'Brien's tux getting shredded by Osbourne's bulldog Lola, and Ozzy lending O'Brien some of his more colorful clothing to make up for it.

The family reappeared later in the show to present the Emmy for outstanding directing for a variety, music, or comedy program. Before naming NBC's Opening Ceremony Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games as the winner, Osbourne matriarch Sharon said, "It's been a pretty exciting and eventful year for our entire family. We appreciate all your support for our little show. And on a personal note, I want to thank you all for your prayers and encouragement. It means a lot to me. Thank you."

The family has its own Emmy as well--The Osbournes won for outstanding non-fiction program (reality) at Creative Emmy Awards, held September 14.

Ozzy Osbourne wasn't the only music industry Emmy winner this year, Sting was given the trophy for outstanding individual performance in a variety or music program for the cable special, A&E In Concert: Sting In Tuscany...All This Time.

Also, all the major networks picked up the award for outstanding variety, music or comedy special for America: A Tribute To Heroes. The special, which aired live on most networks 10 days after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, featured performances by Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and many others.
