The book, which also features essays and interviews with everyday people from across the country, reveals a broad range of ideas, values and beliefs about the disease, and allows many to express themselves about their fears, isolation, pain and triumph in dealing with the reality of HIV/AIDS.
"The essays presented in this book remind us of the devastating impact that HIV/AIDS has had on communities of color," says Robertson, an entertainment industry journalist who was inspired by his family's struggle to deal with the HIV status of his older brother. "People, young and old, are dying and yet the black community has by and large stood by and let it happen. Not anymore. The HIV/AIDS pandemic is one of the most striking developments of this century and this book will help society understand how and why it has so severely impacted the black community."
More details about the book and related projects will be available later this summer. For more information, go to notinmyfamily.com.
