Killers, Pixies, Weezer Top Lollapalooza Lineup

Yahoo! Music, Apr 25, 2005 3:00 pm PDT
The Killers, Pixies, Weezer and Dashboard Confessional are among the acts topping the bill for the 2005 edition of Lollapalooza, which returns this year as a one-time-only event on July 23 and 24 in Chicago, Illinois' Grant Park. The reunited Dinosaur Jr., Widespread Panic, Kasabian, the Bravery, Cake, Liz Phair, Billy Idol, DJ Z-Trip, the Arcade Fire, the Kaiser Chiefs, Louis XIV, Tegan And Sara, Digable Planets, the Dandy Warhols and the Walkmen are also confirmed to appear at the two-day show.

At a press conference held on Friday (April 22) in Chicago, Lollapalooza co-founder and ex-Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell said that he believes the festival lineup is what keeps Lollapalooza a vital event.

"Lollapalooza was important and is still important to the music industry because these groups are the real deal,” Farrell said. “These are not corporate, you know, 'Well, I don't know if I like the song, but I guess I'll get used to it.' These are the kids that are in the clubs, making the music. These are the people that are living it up and living the life."

The show will take place at Hutchinson Field in Grant Park, with around 30,000 fans expected each day.

Organizers are promising to feature a total of 60 bands on five stages. A limited number of $35 pre-sale tickets are already sold out, with regular two-day passes now being offered for $85. That is expected to rise to between $100 and $115 as the event draws closer. Children under 10 will be admitted free if accompanied by a paying adult, and the event will include child-friendly activities.

A runway fashion show is also in the works, in addition to the standard art exhibits, vendors and food.

After a successful 2003 tour following a seven-year hiatus, Lollapalooza was canceled last year due to dismal ticket sales. That lineup was to have featured Morrissey, Modest Mouse, P.J. Harvey, the Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth.
