The band, famed for its indie rock style that inspired Nirvana among others, will give their first live performance in Britain in more than four years, playing as a warm-up act for the festival's closer, the legendary Neil Young.
"Having the Pixies complementing Neil Young feels just right," festival promoter John Giddings told Reuters.
The Isle of Wight festival, which runs from June 12-14, will be the Pixies only performance in Britain, organizers
said.
The band, founded in Boston in 1986, joins The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, The Ting Tings, Stereophonics and Razorlight among an all-star line-up for the popular festival.
The Pixies had a massive following in the late 1980s and early 1990s, before breaking up for nearly a decade.
They reformed in 2003 and have toured the United States and Europe since, generating a cult following.
The Isle of Wight festival is one of a series of rock music extravaganzas Britain hosts each summer. Others include the Glastonbury, Reading and V festivals.
First held between 1968 and 1970, the Isle of Wight gathering has attracted everyone from Bob Dylan to Jimi Hendrix. It relaunched in 2002, since when it has seen performances by Coldplay, The Rolling Stones and Amy Winehouse.
