Perry Farrell's 'Rev'-ing From Warner Bros. To Virgin

Yahoo! Music, Oct 21, 1999 6:00 pm PDT
(10/21/99, 3 p.m. PDT) - Former Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros leader and Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell has signed to Virgin Music Group Worldwide. The move follows the enigmatic artist's decision to leave Warner Bros., the label he's called home since the 1988 release of Nothing's Shocking. Farrell's last release for the label, Rev, a compilation of his work with Jane's and PFP, is due Nov. 9.

Along with the best-known songs from both bands ("Jane Says," "Been Caught Stealing," "Pets," "Kimberly Austin"), will be two new Farrell solo songs, the set's title track, and a drum-and-bass cover of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love."

Another notable inclusion on the set will be the Jane's cover of the Grateful Dead's "Ripple," originally included on the 1991 Dead tribute album Deadicated.

Farrell is in the process of recording a new album, The Diamond Jubilee, which Virgin has tentatively scheduled for worldwide release in April/May of 2000. The album is described by the label as "a world-party plan that includes the most gorgeous soundscapes and vibrations on the planet Earth. All new music and attitude for the millennium. Bringing inspiration to the global dance culture."

"Perry Farrell is one of today's most prolific and charismatic recording artists," Virgin Music Group Worldwide vice chairman Nancy Berry said in making the official announcement of his signing today. "Perry Farrell is one of today's most prolific and charismatic recording artists. His visionary talent, leadership and diversity is evident in everything he touches…We are absolutely delighted Perry has chosen to sign with Virgin Worldwide, and we hope to provide him with the best possible environment in which his creativity can further grow."
