Robbie Williams, Public Enemy, And Vanessa Carlton To Rock The Vote

Yahoo! Music, Feb 5, 2003 3:00 pm PST
(2/5/03, 3 p.m. ET) -- Robbie Williams, Public Enemy, and 2003 Grammy nominees Vanessa Carlton and the Flaming Lips will perform live at the 10th annual Rock The Vote Awards in memory of Patrick Lippert the evening before the Grammy Awards telecast on February 22 at Roseland Ballroom.

Multi-platinum selling artists Alanis Morissette and Peter Gabriel will be presented with Rock The Vote Patrick Lippert Awards at the event. In addition, Chuck D, the founding member of Public Enemy, will receive the 2003 Rock The Vote Founders Award.

The benefit awards gala will honor Gabriel for his role supporting WITNESS, which supports the exposure and documentation of human rights abuses across the globe, arming those in danger with cameras and other recording devices. In the past the former Genesis star helped set up the "Human Rights Now" tour with Amnesty International, and visited the U.S.S.R. to help launch Greenpeace.

Chuck D is being presented with the prestigious 2003 Rock The Nation Award. The voice of Public Enemy is being feted for his contributions to community organizations and his work with Rock The Vote, the National Urban League, and the National Alliance Of African-American Athletes, among others.

Morissette will be honored for participating in a slew of benefit concerts. She participated in the hunger-prevention benefit Groundwork, the John Lennon Tribute Concert to eradicate gun violence, and several other notable charity events.

The Rock The Vote Awards in memory of Patrick Lippert commemorate Rock The Vote's first executive director, who died of complications from AIDS in July of 1993.

Tickets for the annual fundraiser presented by Rock The Vote and MTV can be purchased by calling The Blue Room Group at (310) 491-1401.
