"After reviewing the material filmed in Pasadena last night, UPN is proceeding with plans to air the Source Hip-Hop Music Awards, Tuesday, August 29 (8 -10 p.m. ET/PT)," the network said in a statement
Hours before a melee ended the event, Raekwon saluted the magazine. "Source is a little daily news of hip-hop, man, that's all," he said. "They talk about all the glamour, the glitz, the ups and downs. It's like the journal, that's all.".
Raekwon, a member of the Wu-Tang Clan, never found out if fellow group member Ghostface Killah won the evening's album of the year award for his Supreme Clientele, as the show was canceled after a number of fights broke out moments after Mobb Deep and Lil' Kim finished performing the remix for "Quiet Storm."
Raekwon did, however, see Method Man and Redman take home the trophy for best live performer of the year. Method Man is also a member of the Wu-Tang Clan. Method Man and Redman were also nominated for artist of the year (group) and video of the year, which Eminem won for "Guilty Conscious."
