Newman, 64, was due to start his tour on Saturday in Berlin as he promotes his first album in nearly a decade, "Harps and Angels," which was released in August.
"I deeply regret not being able to come," Newman said in the statement. "I like it so much in Europe and I've always been treated so well. I'll get there as soon as I can."
Newman is a Grammy- and Oscar-winning singer and composer who worked on soundtracks for such films as "Toy Story" and "The Natural."
He is known for his satirical style in songs such as "Short People" that blend the blues with rock 'n' roll, and for writing songs told from the perspective of a range of characters.
His other albums include the 1972's "Sail Away" and the 1999's "Bad Love."
