Replacements Reissues Coming
Yahoo! Music, Aug 21, 2002 10:00 am PDT(8/21/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- The first four albums by the storied '80s indie-rock group the Replacements have been remastered and will be reissued by Restless on September 3.
The Minneapolis band's 1981 debut, Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash, the 1982 EP Stink, 1983's Hootenanny, and 1984's Let It Be capture the group from its inception and growing from punk rock outfit to one of the more acclaimed rock acts of the decade, thanks in great part to the songwriting of the group's frontman, Paul Westerberg. In particular, Let It Be, featuring the single "I Will Dare" and a guest appearance from R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, is often heralded as a classic of the era.
All four albums were originally released by the Minneapolis independent label Twin/Tone Records. While remastered, the new versions are exactly like the originals, containing no additional material.
After Let It Be, the Replacements graduated to Warner Bros.' Sire Records for a stab at greater exposure. The band released four albums for Sire, that, while acclaimed, failed to break the band to a bigger audience--Tim (1985), Pleased To Meet Me (1987), Don't Tell A Soul (1989), and All Shook Down (1990). The group broke up in 1991.
