'Sound Loaded' Hits Stores Today

Yahoo! Music, Nov 14, 2000 7:00 am PST
(11/14/00, 7 a.m. ET) - Ricky Martin performs live outside NBC's Today show studio in New York City this morning at 7 a.m. ET to celebrate the release of his new album, Sound Loaded, which arrives in stores today. The first single, "She Bangs," has climbed to No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and up to No. 5 on the Hot Latin chart. Martin is scheduled to perform tomorrow evening on CBS's The Late Show With David Letterman.

Despite his English-language success, Martin made it very clear last year that he would never turn his back on his Spanish heritage: "It is very important for me to stay close to my culture," he noted. "I'm doing [music] in English because it's all about communicating. I've done it in Portuguese, I've done it in French, I've done it in Italian. What, [I'm] not going to do it in English? It's ridiculous. Once again, I'm not going to stop singing in Spanish, but let's communicate."
