Brain Surgery for Rosanne Cash

E! Online, Nov 6, 2007 4:27 am PST
Rosanne Cash is taking time off from her current tour to allow her health to take center stage.

The country songbird and daughter of Johnny Cash and his late first wife, Vivian Cash, has canceled the remaining four dates on her Black Cadillac: In Concert tour to undergo brain surgery in New York for a "rare but benign condition."

The announcement, made on the 52-year-old's official Website Tuesday, did not disclose her exact ailment, but said she is expected to make a "full recovery" and already has plans to return to the studio to complete a new album, her Manhattan Records debut.

"I am very proud to have Rosanne Cash on our roster," Manhattan Records' GM Ian Ralfini said. "She is an extremely talented singer, writer and performer. We all wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to having her back in the studio soon."

It's unclear when she is scheduled to go to the O.R., but the surgery will take place at New York's Presbyterian Hospital.

Three of Cash's four scuttled tour dates were scheduled to take place this week, starting with a gig in Kansas City on Thursday. Also scrapped were shows in Lafayette, Indiana; Kent, Ohio, and Washington, D.C., where the tour was slated to end on Nov. 30. It's unclear if Cash plans on rescheduling the dates for early next year, but she is eager to return to the road.

According to the Website posting, Cash will kick off the second leg of the tour as scheduled next spring, beginning with a March 3 show in Tampa.

Rosanne Cash, the eldest of her famous father's five children, has scored 11 of her own country number ones over the course of her career. She's recorded with the likes of Sheryl Crow, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Steve Earle, Vince Gill, Lyle Lovett, Marc Cohn and her father, and won a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocalist in 1986.

In addition to returning to both the studio and the road early next year, Cash is workng on a book to be published by Viking sometime in 2009.
