According to a statement released by Hargrove's label, the Verve Music Group, a woman who had been at the club the night of the theft called the club and said she had seen the trumpet on a hall table and wondered why it had been left there. She said she saw a clean-cut Caucasian man --described as medium build, maybe 5'7" or 5'8", possibly in his late 20s or early 30s, with fairly short dark hair and wearing a dark sweater -- pick up the instrument and say, "Oh, man, look at this!" The man was with friends, one of who was female. It is unknown whether or not the man took the trumpet, since there were a number of patrons leaving the club at that same time.
Anyone with information should call either Scullers at (617) 562-4111 or Boston's Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel at (617) 783-0090. There is a $500 reward for the return of the trumpet, and no questions will be asked. If the person who took the instrument wishes to remain anonymous, he or she should mail or deliver it in an unmarked package to the hotel.
