On Sunday (May 28), Boston's Double Tree Guest Suites Hotel (one of the locations where the instrument could be returned) received a call from a man who said "a friend" had taken the trumpet and felt bad about it when he saw all of the news coverage. The man then told the hotel that he had left the trumpet in a plastic bag in the bushes in front of the building and wanted to be sure it would be retrieved. He said he wasn't interested in the $500 reward that had been offered for the instrument's return, and he called back later to make sure that the hotel staff had recovered the trumpet.
Hargrove may make a return trip to Boston on Thursday (June 1) to pick up the instrument -- and, while there, may sit in with the Ray Brown Trio, who will be performing at Scullers tomorrow through Saturday (June 3).
