Goes Gold, Tapped By Sade As Opening Act

(5/17/01, 5 p.m. ET) -- Sade has handpicked neo-soul singer India.Arie to be the opening act on her 30-city North American tour. Arie's debut album, Acoustic Soul, was recently certified gold for sales of 500,000 copies and it is currently Number 36 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The lead single from the set, "Video," is currently Number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and the video has been in heavy rotation for two months.

The Sade/India.Arie tour is scheduled to kick off July 14 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and it will end on September 1 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Arie will open all of the dates except July 22 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, where West African singer Youssou N'Dour will handle the opening-act duties.
