From Shakira's studio in Uruguay -- where she is hard at work writing her English-language debut album, set for release next year -- the Colombian-born singer-songwriter responded with delight after word of the nomination reached her: "This is a special vote of confidence from my American fans, and it comes at an important time for me as I work on my next project. I want to make a great album, with honest songs and great musicianship. I've written over 30 songs so far, some in English and some in Spanish, and I am very excited about the way it's sounding."
At the recent Latin Grammy Awards, the 23-year-old Colombian-born artist grabbed two awards: best female rock vocalist and best female pop vocalist. Shakira's next Epic Records release is due in the spring of 2001.
