(5/6/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Shakira's "Whenever, Wherever" ("Suerte") earned song of the year accolades as the most performed song in the BMI Latin catalog at the 10th Annual Latin Awards. The ceremony took place at the Eden Roc Resort in Miami Beach, Florida on Monday (May 5).

Shakira co-wrote "Whenever, Wherever" with Tim Mitchell and it appears on her multiplatinum album Laundry Service.

The top honors went to writer/producer Estefano, who was named BMI Latin songwriter of the year for the third time. Estefano has three songs on the most performed list including "Necesidad," "Usted Se Me Llevo La Vida," and "Tu Y Yo."

The Latin Awards honor last year's most performed Latin songs on US radio and television. The event coincided with the Billboard Latin Music Conference & Awards 2003, which runs until May 8 at the same location.
