"I was totally blown away by her passionate, open singing--you know, raw emotion," Sting said. "I had decided on that night that I'd love to write a song for her one day, and I came up with this idea of 'Whenever I Say Your Name'--that's perfect for her, you know? It's very romantic. It also has a kind of religious component--you know, she's very churchy in the way she sings."
Sting and Blige will perform "Whenever I Say Your Name" on the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on November 19 on CBS. Sting will also perform his song "Send Your Love" on the show.
Sting will perform on NBC's Today show Thursday (October 2). He's also got concerts set for Saturday (October 4) at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom and next Tuesday (October 7) in Chicago's Grant Park. A world tour will start early next year.
Besides Blige, Sacred Love also includes guest appearances by Spanish singer Victor Amigo and sitarist Anoushka Shankar.
