Sting Signs Deal For 'Narrative Nonfiction' Book

Yahoo! Music, Feb 20, 2002 1:00 pm PST
(2/20/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- Busy man that he is, Sting has now signed a deal to write a book. Sting will write what's being described as "narrative nonfiction," with a publishing target date of 2004. The hardcover will be published by the Bantam Dell Publishing Group, and editor Susan Kamil says, "From the very first pages Sting let me read, I was so impressed by his prose, which is as provocative, memorable, and beautifully written as his lyrics. His book will fascinate his long-time fans as well as a broad readership devoted to high quality narrative nonfiction."

It won't be the first time Sting has put pen to paper. About a year ago, he released the children's book Rock Steady, in which he adapted the lyrics to his song "Rock Steady" into a retelling of the Noah's Ark tale, incorporating some of his concerns for the new millennium. The proceeds from Rock Steady have been given to the Rainforest Foundation.

Sting has also been in the news of late for his musical work. His song "Until...", from the Kate & Leopold soundtrack, won a Golden Globe Award and has been nominated for an Academy Award, while "My Funny Friend And Me," from the animated feature The Emperor's New Groove, is up for a Grammy.

In addition, he's set for this year's Rainforest Foundation Benefit Concert in New York City in April, along with Elton John, James Taylor, and Ravi Shankar; and he'll be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in New York City in June, alongside Michael Jackson, Barry Manilow, Randy Newman, and Ashford & Simpson.
