Hall Ready to Tour After Lyme Disease

AP, Aug 3, 2005 7:40 am PDT
Pop music duo Daryl Hall and John Oates plan to return to the road this weekend as they begin making up shows postponed in July after Hall was diagnosed with lyme disease.

The 55-year-old musician has been resting and taking antibiotics since his diagnosis six weeks ago and will continue to take antibiotics for up to two months while on tour, publicist Jonathan Wolfson said Tuesday.

"Daryl's going to take a little time to get his energy back," Wolfson said. "He gives 1,000 percent on stage."

Hall and Oates are set to play six rescheduled shows, the first one on Saturday in Toledo, Ohio. Dates in late August and throughout September with rocker Todd Rundgren are also scheduled to take place as planned.

Lyme disease, caused by the bite of infected deer ticks, can cause arthritis, neurological problems and encephalitis, a potentially deadly brain inflammation. Early signs include a red "bulls-eye" rash that slowly spreads and flu-like symptoms.

"This illness made it impossible for me to give my best effort to our audience, but now that it's been identified, I'm looking forward to a complete, quick recovery and to get back out there with John as soon as possible," Hall said in a statement posted on the duo's Web site.

Hall and Oates are best known for a stream of 1980s hits, including "Kiss on My List," "Maneater" and "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)."

They are touring in support of their new album, "Our Kind of Soul."
