Jazz flügelhorn and trumpet player Tony "Ham" Guerrero was born February 20, 1944, in San Angelo, TX, and began studying music at the age of eight. In his teens, Guerrero began playing in local dance/rock & roll bands, before discovering jazz and touring throughout the U.S. and Canada at the age of 18, eventually joining Johnny Long & His Orchestra. After studying at the Berklee School of Jazz in Boston, Guerrero relocated to San Francisco, where he continued to study jazz and began playing salsa. In the late '60s, Guerrero formed the first band that he would serve as leader of Little Joe & the Latinaires, while Guerrero and another member of the band, trombonist Joe Gallardo, continued to play together. By the early '90s, Guerrero began issuing solo albums including 2000's Y la Nueva Generacion, which was a collaboration with his son and two daughters. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
