Nominations were announced Wednesday by the college-oriented network. The Shins led all nominees with three, including Woodie of the Year, while a pack of other artists, including Lily Allen, Gym Class Heroes and Linkin Park received two nominations each.
Other nominees include Lil Wayne, Spoon, TV on the Radio and M.I.A.
This is the fourth year for the awards. Votes are cast on the network's Web site and by texting.
The awards will be broadcast on mtvU and its Web site Nov. 15.
