Vanilla Ice News

(11/8/01, 12 p.m. ET) -- Early '90s superstar Vanilla Ice is back with a new album, Bi-Polar, which came out last week. Ice produced the set, which features guest appearances from Chuck D, La Tha Darkman, Insane Clown Posse, and Josh Brainard, formerly of Slipknot. Bi-Polar features eight hardcore tracks and 17 hip-hop tracks.

LAUNCH recently spoke with Ice, who explained why he decided to return to the musical arena. "What brings me back to music is just, you know, I played a lot of shows since October '98. October '98 is when I released Hard To Swallow, which was an album I did with the producer of Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot. His name is Ross Robinson. I knew that the sound would shock a lot of people who are aware of what Vanilla Ice is or was about, you know, with the whole image thing in the early '90s, and the response and everything from that and the VH1 special has just been awesome so, you know, I figured, 'Hey, let's do another record.'"

Vanilla Ice also explained the very personal reason why he named the album Bi-Polar. "You know, bipolar has different stages, I believe. I'm not the extreme bipolar person that needs to be in a straight jacket--that, like, gives all their money away to a charity for no reason. You know, I'm not insane bipolar, but I definitely have it a little bit. I have H.D.A.D.D. as well. There's medication to suppress all these things and whatnot, but I believe God made us this way for a reason and I'm gonna let it shine who I am, you know? Einstein had it and look at what he did. I think, you know, this is just the way I am and this is my purpose in life, is what I'm doing, and a hopefully people can be entertained by it."
