American Music Awards Presented Tonight

(1/17/00, 10 a.m. ET) - The 27th annual American Music Awards will be presented tonight (Jan. 17) at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Comedian Norm Macdonald will host the show, which will air at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Whitney Houston is one of the leading nominees; she earned three nods, including favorite soul/R&B album for her latest release My Love Is Your Love.

The ceremony is taking place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Diana Ross will be on hand to pay tribute to Dr. King. In addition, singer Mariah Carey will be honored with a special award in recognition of her extraordinary string of hits, and singer Gloria Estefan will receive an Award of Merit. Presenters at the American Music Awards include Brian McKnight, Faith Evans, Queen Latifah, the Roots, Sisqo, Tyrese, Britney Spears, Warren G, DMX, and Chico DeBarge. Performers include McKnight, Carey, Evans, Eve, Dr. Dre, Eminem, R. Kelly, Jennifer Lopez, and Joe.
