'N Sync Song Featured In Clint Eastwood Film

Yahoo! Music, Jul 6, 2000 1:00 pm PDT
(7/6/00, 1 p.m. ET) - 'N Sync's song "Space Cowboy (Yippie-Yi-Yay)"-- from the multiplatinum album No Strings Attached--will be featured in the upcoming Warner Bros. film Space Cowboys, starring Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, and James Garner. The track can be heard in the trailer at the movie's official website (spacecowboys.net), but 'N Sync's Jive Records label could not confirm the details by press time.

"Space Cowboy" is one of four tracks on No Strings Attachedwritten and produced by group member J.C. Chasez, and it features a guest rap by TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. Chasez told LAUNCH, "'Space Cowboy' is a song about the end of the world. I would say [it's] my favorite one that I've done so far, because it's just a great song. I'm just very proud of it. I love everything that happened on the song, and it's not just another love song. It's actually something else--it's a concept song, which is pretty good."

Chasez added that fan response to the hip-hop-flavored song has been very positive. "Actually, a lot of people think it's creative. They feel like we're kind of pushing the door to a new sound, " he said. "We don't want everything to sound the same. We don't want everything to sound like what everybody else is doing. You want to try and push and be a pioneer to create a new sound."

The film Space Cowboys is about a group of Air Force test pilots passed over by NASA to be the first Americans in space in 1958, when a chimpanzee got the honor instead. Years later, the retired team of would-be astronauts--the titular "space cowboys" headed up by Frank Corvin (Eastwood)--is recruited to retrieve a malfunctioning Russian satellite. Eastwood produced and directed the film, which opens nationwide on August 4.

In other 'N Sync news, the group plans to add more than 30 dates to its No Strings Attached tour, reports Billboard; the second leg of tour dates goes October 29 through December 12. Originally, 'N Sync were scheduled to tour with Britney Spears in Europe during that time, but those plans have been scrapped, according to a Jive spokesperson.
