The Verve make live return

The Verve made a triumphant return to the live stage on Friday evening, playing their first gig in almost 10 years.

The seminal lineup of Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones, and Pete Salisbury appeared at the Glasgow Academy, after reforming earlier in the year.

Last onstage together for a May 1998 concert at Haigh Hall in Wigan, England, the group's 17-song set spanned much of the Verve's original career, particularly final album Urban Hymns.

Opening with "This Is Music," the group said little from the stage but appeared relaxed despite the acrimony that originally caused them to split.

The set featured a host of classics, including "Bitter Sweet Symphony," "The Drugs Don't Work," "A Northern Soul," and "Man Called Sun."

With the band currently understood to be working on a fifth studio album, they also performed one brand new track, entitled "Sit And Wonder."

The Verve's set-list, according to NME, was:

"This Is Music"
"Sonnet"
"All In The Mind"
"Weeping Willow"
"Life's An Ocean"
"Space And Time"
"Sit And Wonder"
"Velvet Morning"
"Already There"
"Let The Damage Begin"
"A Northern Soul"
"The Drugs Don't Work"
"The Rolling People"
"Bitter Sweet Symphony"
"Man Called Sun"
"Lucky Man"
"Come On"

The Verve's U.K. tour continues this week with a pair of shows at Blackpool's Empress Ballroom and then London's Roundhouse.
