The Wallflowers' Former Guitarist Was 'Removed' From Group

Music, Oct 25, 2002 6:00 pm PDT(10/25/02, 6 p.m. ET) - Fans catching the Wallflowers in their recent gigs or in the video for their new single, "When You're On Top," might notice the absence of the band's longtime guitarist Michael Ward. The bald-headed six-stringer parted ways with the group before it entered the studio to make its new album, Red Letter Days, which is due November 5 from Interscope Records.
But don't call Ward's move a departure. "He didn't depart. He was removed, you know?" Wallflowers frontman Jakob Dylan told LAUNCH. "You know, he just wasn't on the same page (as) everybody anymore. I think he had his own interests and I think he wanted to do his own thing. I don't think the band was really...maybe never became the outlet that he thought that it was gonna be for him. But I can't tell you want he was looking for."
In Ward's absence, Jakob Dylan played more guitar in the studio, and the group also enlisted the services of Mike McCready of Pearl Jam. For live performances, former Buckcherry member Yogi has been added to the group's lineup.
